- Melt 4 tablespoons of salted butter in a medium saucepan over low heat for 2-3 minutes, avoiding browning.
- Add a 10 oz bag of marshmallows (and optional marshmallow creme) to the melted butter and stir for 5 minutes until smooth.
- Remove from heat and mix in ⅔ cup of dry cake mix until fully blended and thick.
- In a large bowl, mix 6 cups of crispy rice cereal with the marshmallow mixture and ½ to ¾ bottle of rainbow sprinkles.
- Transfer the mixture to a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, pressing down firmly with a spatula.
- Top with remaining rainbow sprinkles and press them in. Allow to cool at room temperature for 30 minutes before serving.
