Ingredients
  

For the Casserole
  • 1 pound Ground Beef can substitute with ground turkey or meat alternative
  • 1 bag Frozen Tater Tots
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Frank's Red Hot Sauce or your favorite hot sauce
  • 1 cup Diced Jalapeños adjust to taste
  • 1 cup Shredded Mild Cheddar Cheese or pepper jack for spiciness
  • 1 cup Sour Cream can substitute with Greek yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin optional
  • 1 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper optional
For the Cream Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 8 ounces Sliced Mushrooms fresh or canned
  • 1/4 cup All-Purpose Flour can use gluten-free flour
  • 1 cup Half & Half or milk/dairy-free alternatives
  • 1 1/2 cups Chicken Broth or vegetable broth for vegetarian option
  • 1 teaspoon Salt to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Black Pepper to taste

Method
 

Preparation and Cooking
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and spray a 13" x 9" casserole dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef for 7-8 minutes until no longer pink, drain excess grease, and stir in Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
  3. Melt butter in the same skillet, sauté sliced mushrooms for 5 minutes, add flour, and gradually whisk in half & half and chicken broth until thickened.
  4. Remove the cream sauce from heat and stir in sour cream, Frank's Red Hot Sauce, cumin, and cayenne pepper.
  5. Layer half of the cooked ground beef, then the cream sauce, followed by cheese, jalapeños, remaining beef, and top with tater tots.
  6. Bake for 40-45 minutes until the tater tots are golden brown and cheese is bubbly.
