  • 1 package Puff Pastry High-quality frozen
  • 1 large Egg (beaten) For egg wash
For the Filling
  • 8 slices Ham Use turkey or salami if desired
  • 1 cup Cheese (Swiss, Gruyère, or Cheddar) Shredded, experiment with your favorite cheese
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon Mustard Optional, for added tanginess
For Seasoning
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Pepper
  • to taste tablespoon Fresh Herbs (thyme or rosemary) For garnish
For Egg Wash
  • 1 tablespoon Milk Optional

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Thaw your frozen puff pastry sheets, roll them out gently to 1/8 inch thickness.
  3. Cut the rolled-out puff pastry into squares, four squares per stack.
  4. In a small bowl, combine a beaten egg with a splash of milk to create an egg wash.
Assembly
  1. Layer one pastry square with slices of ham and a generous portion of shredded cheese.
  2. Sprinkle with salt and pepper, and add fresh herbs if using.
  3. Place another pastry square on top, pressing gently to seal the edges.
  4. Brush the tops with egg wash before transferring to the baking sheet.
Baking
  1. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and puffed.
  2. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
