  • 1 cup Unsalted Butter Can substitute with salted butter.
  • 1 cup Granulated Sugar No substitutions for a classic flavor.
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt Optional if using salted butter.
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract Opt for pure vanilla for best taste.
  • 2 tablespoons Water No alternatives necessary.
Toppings
  • 1 cup Semi-Sweet or Milk Chocolate Chips Can substitute with dark chocolate.
  • 1 cup Chopped Nuts (Pecans, Walnuts, Almonds) Can omit for nut-free version.

Method
 

Making the Toffee
  1. Line a 9×13-inch baking dish with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine butter, sugar, salt, and water over medium heat. Stir constantly until deep golden brown, about 10-15 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and pour the hot toffee into the prepared baking dish, spreading evenly.
  4. Sprinkle chocolate chips on top of the warm toffee, let sit for 2 minutes, then swirl the chocolate.
  5. Sprinkle chopped nuts over the melted chocolate, pressing gently to adhere.
  6. Cool at room temperature for about 2 hours or refrigerate for 30 minutes until set.
  7. Cut into squares or break into pieces once completely set.
