Step-by-Step Instructions for Kreatopita
- Heat a generous amount of oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once shimmering, add finely chopped onions and sauté for about 5 minutes until soft and translucent.
- Add the ground beef, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Cook for 7-10 minutes until browned and no longer pink.
- Stir in the uncooked rice, tomato sauce, oregano, and season with salt and pepper. Mix thoroughly and add a splash of water. Simmer uncovered on low heat for about 10 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Brush a baking dish with melted butter or oil. Lay out five sheets of phyllo dough, brushing each layer with butter or oil.
- Spoon the beef and rice mixture into the center of the phyllo base. Cover with more phyllo sheets, brushing each with butter or oil.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes until the top is golden brown and crispy.
- Remove from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
