For the Custard
  • 4 large Egg Yolks
  • 1/2 cup Granulated Sugar (for custard)
  • 2 cups Whole Milk (for custard) Can substitute with dairy-free milk
  • 1/4 cup Cornstarch Can substitute with arrowroot powder
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract Use pure vanilla for best results

Method
 

Cake Preparation
  1. Activate yeast by warming milk and combining with sugar and yeast. Let sit until frothy.
  2. Prepare dough by combining flour, sugar, and salt, then add butter, eggs, and yeast mixture.
  3. Allow the dough to rise in a greased bowl covered with a towel for 1 hour.
  4. Make the almond-honey topping by combining butter, sugar, honey, and almonds.
  5. Shape the cake by spreading the dough in a greased pan and layering the topping.
  6. Let the dough rest for an additional 20 minutes covered with a towel.
  7. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Prepare the custard by heating milk and mixing with yolks, sugar, cornstarch, and vanilla until thickened.
  9. Chill the custard until set before assembling the cake layers.
  10. Layer the cake by spreading the custard on the bottom layer and placing the top layer back on.
