- In a large skillet, heat a drizzle of olive oil over medium heat. Sauté one chopped onion until translucent, about 3-4 minutes. Add your choice of ground beef, lamb, or pork, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until browned, roughly 7-10 minutes. Stir in rice, tomato sauce, oregano, salt, pepper, and a splash of water. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes until flavors meld.
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Coat a rectangular baking dish with melted butter or olive oil. Unroll the phyllo dough, covering unused sheets with a damp towel. Layer five sheets into the dish, brushing each with melted butter.
- Spread the meat and rice filling evenly over the prepared phyllo layers. Carefully drape additional phyllo sheets over the filling, brushing each with melted butter.
- Place the assembled Kreatopita in the preheated oven and bake for 40-45 minutes until top is golden brown and crispy.
