Ingredients
  

For the Dough
  • 4 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter melted
  • 1/4 cup Granulated Sugar or coconut sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Active Dry Yeast ensure it's fresh
  • 1 cup Whole Milk or almond milk for non-dairy
  • 1 large Egg or flax egg for vegan
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
For the Filling
  • 1/2 cup Raspberry Jam or other tart preserves
  • 1 cup Custard prepared ahead for convenience
For the Glaze (Optional)
  • 1/2 cup Sugar for glaze or powdered sugar for dusting

Method
 

Dough Preparation
  1. Combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt in a large bowl.
  2. Melt butter, mix in milk and let cool, then stir in egg.
  3. Mix wet ingredients into dry ingredients to form dough.
  4. Knead dough for 5-7 minutes until smooth, place in greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour.
Custard Making
  1. In a saucepan, whisk milk, sugar, egg yolks, cornstarch, and vanilla.
  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring until thickened, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and let cool.
Shaping the Buns
  1. Roll the dough into a rectangle, cut into squares.
  2. Place custard and raspberry jam in center of each square and fold corners over to shape.
  3. Place shaped buns seam-side down on a lined baking sheet and allow to rise for 30 minutes.
Baking the Buns
  1. Preheat oven to 200°C (392°F).
  2. Bake buns for 15-18 minutes until golden brown.
Optional Glazing
  1. Prepare a glaze by mixing powdered sugar and milk until smooth.
  2. Brush glaze on tops or dust with powdered sugar after cooling.
