Ingredients

For the Base
  • 1 can Sweetened Condensed Milk Provides a creamy base and inherent sweetness; no direct substitution recommended.
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter Adds richness; preferred for control over salt.
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract Use pure for the best flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon Maple Extract Imparts a strong maple flavor; substitute with maple syrup if unavailable.
  • 1/4 cup Maple Syrup Always opt for real maple syrup.
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt Omit if using salted butter.
  • 4-5 cups Powdered Sugar Sift before measuring.
  • 1/2 cup Chopped Walnuts Can substitute with pecans or almonds.
For the Coating
  • 2 cups Chocolate Chips Dark or semi-sweet chocolate works best.

Preparation Steps
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine sweetened condensed milk, softened unsalted butter, vanilla extract, maple extract, and maple syrup. Beat until smooth.
  2. Gradually add sifted powdered sugar, mixing until a dough-like consistency forms. Fold in chopped walnuts.
  3. Cover and refrigerate the mixture for at least 30 minutes to firm up.
  4. Scoop and roll the chilled mixture into small balls, roughly 1 inch in diameter, and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  5. Refrigerate or freeze the shaped balls for another 30 minutes until firm.
  6. Melt chocolate chips in the microwave or double boiler until fully melted and smooth.
  7. Dip each chilled Maple Ball into the melted chocolate and allow excess to drip off.
  8. Let the chocolate coating cool at room temperature or refrigerate until set, about 30-45 minutes.
