Ingredients

Churro Dough
  • 1 cup Water Provides moisture to the dough; no substitutions needed.
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter Adds richness and flavor; can be substituted with margarine for a dairy-free option.
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt Enhances overall flavor; try sea salt for a more sophisticated taste.
  • 1 tablespoon Granulated Sugar Sweetens the dough; brown sugar can deliver a deeper caramel flavor.
  • 1 cup All-Purpose Flour Gives structure to churros; gluten-free flour blends can be a good substitute.
  • 2 large Eggs Provides moisture and binds the mixture; use flax eggs for a vegan alternative.
  • Vegetable Oil for frying Any neutral oil such as canola or sunflower can be used.
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon Offers warm spice flavor for sprinkling; adjust to taste or omit for plain churros.
Nutella Dip
  • 1 cup Nutella Serves as a delicious dipping sauce; any chocolate-hazelnut spread works, but Nutella is recommended for the best results.

  • Microwave
  • medium saucepan

Preparation Steps
  1. Begin by warming your Nutella in a microwave-safe bowl for 20-30 seconds. Stir halfway through to ensure even consistency.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of water, 1/2 cup unsalted butter, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1 tablespoon granulated sugar. Bring to a rolling boil over medium heat.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in 1 cup of all-purpose flour until it forms a ball of dough.
  4. Allow the dough to cool for about 5 minutes in the saucepan.
  5. Beat in the eggs one at a time until the dough is smooth and slightly sticky.
  6. Combine 1/2 cup granulated sugar with 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon in a shallow bowl.
  7. Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pot to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Pipe strips of dough, about 3-4 inches long, into the hot oil and fry for 2-3 minutes per side.
  9. Roll the fried churro bites in the cinnamon sugar mixture while still warm.
  10. Serve immediately alongside the warm Nutella dip.
