  • 1 pound Ground Beef or ground turkey for leaner option
  • 1 medium Onion yellow or white onion
  • 3 cloves Minced Garlic
  • 28 ounces Crushed Tomatoes fire-roasted for a smoky flavor
  • 14.5 ounces Diced Tomatoes low-sodium variety
  • 2 tablespoons Tomato Paste
  • 2 cups Beef Broth or vegetable broth for vegetarian option
Spices
  • 2 tablespoons Chili Powder adjust to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked Paprika regular paprika can be used
  • 1 teaspoon Oregano fresh or dried
  • 1 teaspoon Salt to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Black Pepper to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper optional
Optional Toppings
  • 1 cup Cheese Cheddar or Monterey Jack
  • 1 cup Sour Cream
  • 1/2 cup Green Onions chopped

Method
 

Chili Preparation
  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef and chopped onion. Cook for 7 to 8 minutes until the beef is browned and the onion is translucent.
  2. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  3. Transfer the beef mixture to the slow cooker. Add crushed tomatoes, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, and beef broth, followed by spices.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours or on high for 3 to 4 hours.
  5. Stir well, serve hot, and top with cheese, sour cream, or green onions as desired.
